What is gold filled jewelry?

Unlike gold-plated jewelry, which features only a microscopically thin layer of gold over a base metal, gold-filled jewelry is crafted with a substantially thicker layer of gold that is mechanically bonded to a core metal, typically brass. By law, this gold layer must make up at least 5% of the item’s total weight—often described as 1/20 gold by weight. The karat of the gold alloy, such as 14K, refers to the quality of the outer gold layer.

How do I clean my jewelry?

To clean your 14K gold-filled jewelry, use mild soap and water to create a soapy solution and scrub with soft toothbrush. Dry with a soft cloth.
